Bead Peeps Swap N Hop May 2015

Our Hostess: Linda Anderson from http//

Our group on Facebook:

Meet my lovely Swap N Hop Partner, Becky Pancake!
Becky has been making jewelry for 15 years.
My partner Becky made this for Octoberfest last year.
Octoberfest is hosted by Toltec Jewels at:
This is one of my favorite pieces that Becky has blogged about.
I love orange in any way it comes!  Tints, hues, translucent, opaque, pumpkin...

I love sending bead swaps!
As you can see, Becky is going to have a hard time deciding on what to make.
I usually send my packages priority mail for only $5.25, so I make it worth it.
I fill the box to the rim, every nook & cranny.  A great opportunity to do a swap,
send some extra as a RAOK (random act of kindness) and just because!
I also sent her all of this!
I wanted to give her lots of choices
in the colors, focals & handmade items.
Not only did I send her items that I've made,
but items I've purchased or received in recent swaps
by other talented artists!

These are the pretty goodies that I received from Becky!
The warm colors are so inviting.  For the first time in a swap I strived
to use as many of the items that I received.  I really wanted to use up everything,
to challenge myself.  But, I had a couple of last minute commissions to work on.
So I was able to get 3 really great pieces completed.
The first piece!  I do have goldstone in my collection
of beads, findings, seed beads & mixed media items.
Don't forget I have a mini Michaels at home!
This one was quite easy for me.
Becky made the focal & I really couldn't see it as a necklace.
I didn't want to take away from all of the work she put into this design.
I've been shopping occasionally at Savers (a local 2nd hand store)
Buying up clutches, purses & small bags to upcycle by beading onto them.
I used the smoke fireline to stitch the focal that I received in my swap
onto this purse!  Easy Peasy!

This is a paper mache' birdhouse
that you can buy at Michaels Arts & Crafts Stores
I happen to work there in the jewelry department & teach jewelry classes!
In my stash I found an old metal wind up music box someone gave me about 15+ years ago.
I cut off the roof of the birdhouse.  Viola, a music box in the making.  Which beads to use, how will it be executed?

So far this is what I have.  But I would like to do much more to it.
I want it to stand up taller so the mechanical part inside doesn't move.
I used the 11/0 & 15/0 seed beads that I received in my swap stitched onto the fabric scrap from my stash & painted the roof a warm metallic gold.

Using up the rest
of the seed beads
that I received from Becky.
I did some even count peyote
& herringbone.  Added some of the round
gemstones, a copper metal focal,
a copper chain I recently received from
a purchase from Lori Anderson, some aqua
metal pieces, some yarn from a chinese auction
and the wire wrapped copper clasp & connectors made
by Becky Pancake!
Here's what's left
after all of the designing,
pinning, decisions & & executions!

Thank you Linda Anderson for all the planning, organizing, answering PM's,
posting suggestions, rules, FYI's & executing quite an adventurous experience!

Ooh AhH Anchors AweiGH

Thank you Toltec & Suburban Girl Beads
for hosting this design challenge.

I will say that I have been so excited to be able to participate in yet another design challenge & blog hop.  As many other past challenges I set out many times to design and come up with something different and original.  Many times I "cruised" pinterest for inspiration.  This evening, Saturday, September 6th I'm burning both ends of the candle.  I set out to make a ring.  I tend to peyote my bezels quite tight.  So at 9:00pm PST I unfortunately got a full blown anxiety attack & hot flash.  Uhh, like I needed this NOW?!  So then I'm calling Heather Richter one of my life lines for support.  She was the best.  I ended up scrapping working on beading a bezel and she suggested I do the wire wrapping of the charms with half round copper wire around some gear frames to make a simple pair of earrings.  We've all been there.  For me I was set out to make a simple ring from a you tube video that I came across today & ended up with a pair of earrings.  LOL!

Here you can see that on the right one, I cut the loop off to do the peyote bezel.

Here are my earrings, you can see that I ended up cutting off the other loop.
Please take the time to visit all the participants in this blog hop challenge.  Get inspired to create something different or use a new element in your next design.

Starting Over

The Pros & Cons

PRO~ If you choose to enable Google+ you can have all of your google friends' comments linked to your google email account.

CON~If you choose to enable Google+ ONLY those who have a Google email account may post on your blogs.  They must either log in or sign up for a google email account.

CON~If you have enabled Google+ & choose to disable it remember this.....Copy & Paste every comment into word for each & every blog that you wish to repost the comments.  This is what I learned today.  I was able to copy & past only Google+ comments that were saved in my google email account from the drop down bell icon.

I was able to copy & paste Google+ comments for my recent posts of Carnival, Chicklets & Haberdashery, Gemstones & Metal, and Ocean Blog Hops only.  This was a decision I made to allow those who use other email accounts that are NOT google.  Unfortunately, I ended up losing all of my comments for EVERY post that I've created in blogger.  Including BSBP!!

Hopefully another Blogger user out there will be able to copy & paste all of their comments for all of their blog posts.

I learned many new things today with using blogger.  Google+ is like being in a private club.  I will continue to use my google email, just not every NEW aspect of their company.

Carnivals, Chicklets & Haberdashery Blog Reveals 2014

Close Up View of Beads

There are so many objects, characters, food, rides, colors and more when it comes to going to a carnival, fair and circus.  I spent hours upon hours searching for clip arts and photographs in google searches and on pinterest.  I was looking for different things to get inspired in this Carnival Blog Hop.
From cotton candy, funnel cakes, tilt-a-whirls, ferris wheels, clowns, lions, ring leaders, flying trapeze artists, cake walks, ticket stubs, hay, seals balancing balls on their heads, candy, soda, popcorn.....
I came across this photo on google.

I then was thinking of the shapes of my sea glass and rondelle crystals.  All of a sudden I'm looking at the hot dog and the RED donut sea glass beads.

Sorry it's not the best picture.  I added 4 red donut beads onto an eyepin & wire wrapped the other end.  I found some japanese seed beads in my stash for the color of the hot dog bun.  Scoured some more & found some beads for mustard & relish.

Surprisingly I had this hot dog finished about a week after receiving the kit.
I was carnival blocked up until 2 weeks before the reveal.  I had to do something more considering I had only used 4 beads from the kit so far....
Closeup of Bottle Caps
Just above to the left is a closeup view of the Bottle Caps.  Which I used carnival themed bottle cap stickers, glossy accents and punched holes with my Crop~a~dile.  Above to the right the completed "CARNIVAL TIME" themed chain necklace with animal charms, red sea glass dangles, bicycle pendant, a pair of hot air balloon earrings and the HOT DOG keychain charm.

Please take you time to visit and ooh & ahh over the rest of the talented artists in this FUN Carnival Challenge.

Hot Pink peyote seed beads

Added some light blue beads

I stitched the peyote chicklet onto an orange button, added a peyote bail.  I wasn't sure at first what to do with the CHICKLET pendant, then thought to combine my CHICKLET & HABERDASHERY blog projects.  I took some leftover hot pink and metallic bon bon yarn along with some orange & turquoise DMC thread to make the necklace.  I cut different lengths of each & knotted them together to make 2 strands of my own fibers.  For one of the strands I hand crocheted that length.  For the 2nd strand I attached it to my first strand.  Then started tying knots with different colors.
