ANCHORS AWEIGH
Thank you Toltec & Suburban Girl Beads
for hosting this design challenge.
I will say that I have been so excited to be able to participate in yet another design challenge & blog hop. As many other past challenges I set out many times to design and come up with something different and original. Many times I "cruised" pinterest for inspiration. This evening, Saturday, September 6th I'm burning both ends of the candle. I set out to make a ring. I tend to peyote my bezels quite tight. So at 9:00pm PST I unfortunately got a full blown anxiety attack & hot flash. Uhh, like I needed this NOW?! So then I'm calling Heather Richter one of my life lines for support. She was the best. I ended up scrapping working on beading a bezel and she suggested I do the wire wrapping of the charms with half round copper wire around some gear frames to make a simple pair of earrings. We've all been there. For me I was set out to make a simple ring from a you tube video that I came across today & ended up with a pair of earrings. LOL!
Here you can see that on the right one, I cut the loop off to do the peyote bezel. |
Here are my earrings, you can see that I ended up cutting off the other loop. |
Please take the time to visit all the participants in this blog hop challenge. Get inspired to create something different or use a new element in your next design.

Beautiful!!! Was glad to be their via phone while you made these!!! Great work!!!!
ReplyDeleteVery nice earrings! The copper goes great with the color of the components. Heather's idea was a great one! Good job!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea for the earrings. Very unique. The way the wire is attaching the charms to the gears makes me think of barnacles attaching to the hull of a ship. Wonderful earrings.
ReplyDeleteoh wow! for a panicked, last minute design you really came out on top! I love how you've wire bezeled around these! that is simply fantastic!!
ReplyDeleteThe gear elements were a GREAT addition to these luscious charms, Kathleen... so original and edgy, too! Too bad you were overwhelmed by the deadline (happens to me all the time) but a friend in need, etc. :)
ReplyDeleteI am sorry you had that experience, but what a great pair of earrings you made in the end! I really love this design! Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteVery creative use of wire wrapping and the copper goes great with the blue! As jewelry designers we could all use Heather's phone number for the Bead Panic Hot Line!!
ReplyDeleteWhat fun earrings! I think that some of the best designs occur when we are running out of time.
ReplyDeleteHow smart to cut off the wire :-) I really love the peyote bezel you created this way. And a beautiful colour combination!
ReplyDeleteWow! I sure wish I could do something like this. Beautiful Design!
ReplyDeleteOh Wow...I just love these earrings! Very creative! Sometimes we create our best designs when under pressure... :-)

ReplyDeleteYour earrings are beautiful and it is so good to have someone that you can lean on when you need to put your designs in focus. I love the copper with the beads, really great job!
